About Us

Robolution - Team 1620 formally known as C.S.I.S. (Combining Skills and Innovation for Success), is composed of students, mentors and teachers who all have different talents and skills, but share the love ofcoming together and learning new things. Robolution is more than just merely building a robot. This team has come together to work as a team and create what we though was once impossible, and make it possible.CSIS changed their name to Robolution reflect how the team has evolved into something much bigger and better then last year. As rookie team we faced many speed bumps along the six-week road they were taking to build a robot. However they came together and learned that teamwork and dedication could overpower any of their problems. The team placed 20th in last year’s competition, which we were all thrilled about.

This year Robolution, is taking what we learned last year and using it to create something bigger and better. With over 20 students, 6 mentors, 3 alumni, and 2 teachers Robolution is taking FIRST by storm.

About F.I.R.S.T

FIRST is a program that gets kids ranging from age 12 to high school graduates interested and involved in science and technology. It teaches the values of gracious professionalism, and shows a culture that is obsessed with television and sports that sciences and technologies can be just as cool and rewarding as any career as a sports, rock, or movie star.

FIRST robotics allows teenagers to see and experience various aspects of a real-life career in the scientific fields through the help of the mentors and volunteers that allow the program to run. Through the competition challenges each year, FIRST teaches students teamwork, innovative thinking, and the importance of deadlines.

To many people, FIRST is just a game, to most, it is a life. FIRST has been known to be more than just a game. It teaches life skills to the students, who are the leaders of tomorrow. Also, people have used it as their "anti-drug" because they are too intoxicated on science and technology, not having time for drugs.

All in all, FIRST is a huge inspiration to the students that are in it, and to those who aren't.

About the Game

This year's game, Overdrive is a really intense game. It has a good mix of all out speed, as well as control. The course is simply an oval, similar to NASCAR but with lines dividing the oval in quarters. There are also two six foot overpasses each holding two 42 inch balls.

As always, there are two alliances and each alliance has two balls that are the same color. The robots must start fully automatic, this lasts for about 15 seconds. However, during the 15 seconds, teams can send infrared signals to control the robot. The drivers can either take over the robot controls or allow the robot to operate in hybrid mode. Robots must travel in a counter clock wise direction and can not go into the quadrant behind them.

During hybrid mode, robots must get their ball off the rack. They then race around the track and try to get the ball around the track as many times as possible. The more times the robot goes around the track, the more points the alliance gets. At the end of the match, teams can put the balls back on the racks for bonus points.

Each match lasts about 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
